Whiskey

Bourbon
An American whiskey made from at least 51% corn that must be aged in new charred American Oak barrels. It must be aged for a minimum of 2 years, but is typically aged much longer.

Canadian Whisky
Created by Scottish immigrants in the 1700s. Barley wasn’t as common in Canada so they lowered the amount of barley and also used corn, rye and wheat to make their whisky.

Irish Whiskey
Produced from malted barley and sometimes other cereal grains, it must be aged in oak barrels for at least 5 years.

Japanese Whisky
Must contain malted grains and be aged for at least three years. There is a wide array of both single malt and blended Japanese whiskies.

Rye
American Rye Whiskey must be made from at least 51% corn that must be aged in new charred American Oak barrels.

Scotch
Must be made from cereal grains and aged in barrels for a minimum of 3 years. There are multiple types, but the two most common are Single Malt, which must be made from 100% malted barley at a single distillery, and Blended Scotch which can be a blend of different grain whiskies from different distilleries.

Tennessee Whiskey
Like bourbon, Tennessee whiskey must be made with at least 51% corn and aged in new charred American oak barrels, but it undergoes a mellowing charcoal filtration process before aging.
